Indications for speckle tracking echocardiography in routine practice

The potential of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) is not sufficiently exploited in practice. One of the reasons is the limited awareness of its indications and benefits. The overview publication lists the STE indications according to the official documents of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), published in 2010-2021 (ESC Guidelines and Consensus and Position papers, published by ESC Councils, ESC Working Groups, European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, Heart Failure Association). STE has the most significant benefit in diagnosing heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, cardiotoxicity in patients undergoing cancer therapy, and cardiac amyloidosis. In addition, practical aspects of STE use in acute heart failure, aortic stenosis, arterial hypertension, left ventricular dyssynchrony, atrial fibrillation, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, Chagas disease, coronary syndromes, right ventricular pathologies, restrictive cardiomyopathy, athlete's heart, and cardiac transplantation are reported.
