EPIT-HF survey of chronic heart failure with reduced, mid-range and preserved ejection fraction in Slovakia. Part 2: Focus on therapy

Background: There is only minimal data on the treatment of chronic HF in real practice in Slovakia. For the therapy of heart failure with mid-range ejection fraction (HFmrEF), no Slovak data has yet been published.

Aims: In a prospective survey, to determine and compare the pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment for three phenotypes of chronic heart failure (HF) - HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), HFmrEF and HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). We also investigated drug prescription preferences within individual drug classes.

Methods: The survey was carried out by 161 physicians (115 cardiologists - 71.4% and 46 internists - 28.6%). Consecutive outpatients diagnosed with chronic HF aged at least 18 years were enrolled. There were no exclusion criteria in the survey. The HF phenotypes were defined according to the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF): HFrEF - LVEF < 40%, HFmrEF - LVEF 40-49%, HFpEF - LVEF ≥ 50%.
