Cardiology Letters 2015, 24(5):315-320

Aim: Baroreflex sensitivity is a noninvasive marker of autonomic nervous system integrity, which characterises efficacy of blood pressure regulation. The aim of study was to evaluate differences and clinical significance of baroreflex sensitivity in risk stratification of patients with primary, well controlled hypertension and resistant hypertension. Patients and Methods: A total of 105 patients, 96 patients with primary hypertension (46 M/50 F, 68±9.54 years of age) and 9 patients with resistant hypertension (3M/6F, 64±5.86 years of age), were studied. The relationship between baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) and blood pressure, global cardiovascular...

The relationship between the sleep quality and blood pressure values before and after therapy with rilmenidine

Farský Š, Šidlo R

Cardiology Letters 2015, 24(5):321-327

The study was aimed at determining a potential correlation between the morning values of blood pressure and the sleep quality during the previous night in patients with fixed hypertension treated with medicaments, and at finding whether a therapy with rilmenidine has positive effects not only on the value of blood pressure, but also on improving the sleep quality through a decrease in the sympathicus activity. During a previous study with the sample of 1,216 patients with hypertension and metabolic syndrome, it was demonstrated that 59% of the patients reported improved sleep during a treatment with rilmenidine. We have examined 993 patients with essential...
