In the examined group of 500 patients subjected to coronary catheterization, 70 cases (14%) presented a "normal" coronary angiogram. This type of angina pectoris is referred to as microvascular angina pectoris (MIV-AP) or cardiac syndrome X (CSX). We detected a prevalence of periclimacteric women with android obesity (4,1 times): in our sample 52% of them showed symptoms of benign hirsutism and suffered from long-term menstrual cycle disorders. In addition, half of of the MIV-AP patients presented in the myocardial SPECT thallium scintigraphy a significant myocardium perfusion defect during a repeated ergometry. In our study of MIV-AP patients, no...

Purpose: To identify the value of hyponatremia as an in-hospital mortality predictor and its relation to selected characteristics in a general population of hospitalized AHF patients. Methods: We used the data from SLOVASeZ (Slovak Acute Heart Failure Survey), a nationwide multicenter AHF survey, with 860 consecutive patients enrolled during 3 months in 11 hospitals throughout Slovakia. Hyponatremia was defined as serum sodium < 135 mmol/l at admission. We analysed fifty-seven variables in relation to clinical manifestation, diagnostics and treatment of AHF in univariate analysis. Significant variables (p < 0.05) were subsequently entered into...
