Coronary artery disease is one of the most common and serious cardiovascular diseases in the developed countries. The analysis of current situation offers the international, prospective, observational, longitudinal registry CLARIFY (the Prospective Observational Longitudinal Registry of Patients with Stable Coronary Artery Disease) of 32 703 outpatients with proven stable coronary artery disease (CAD) from 45 countries in the world including 183 patients from Slovakia. This analysis compares 5 years data from Slovakia to the rest European data. The participating doctors were cardiologists, and internists while each of this doctors included 10 - 15 consecutive patients from 11/2009 to 6/2010. The registry offered an analysis of the characteristics of the patients concluding that: Slovak patients had higher weight, more severe hypertension, more patients were with positive familiar anamnesis of CAD, with diabetes, with myocardial infarction, stroke, with heart failure and angina pectoris. In Slovakia the patients had more intense treatment: we have higher usage of thienopyridines, anticoagulants, beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, ACE inhibitors, other antihypertensive agents, other antianginal agents, diuretics, digoxin, antidiabetic agents and trimetazidine. On the other hand we have lower usage of antiplatelet agents and ivabradine. Despite of this Slovak patients do not have adequate control of hypertension as well as heart rate. There is also numerically higher all-cause mortality, higher incidence of unstable angina pectoris, but lower incidence of non-cardiovascular mortality with no statistically significance. There were more hospitalizations for heart failure and incidence of transient ischemic attack (statistically significant). Slovak patients have higher incidence of risk factors and cardiovascular diseases as well. This analysis offers directions for the prevention of coronary artery disease.
